Joys Miller, FNP-C

Joys Miller, FNP-C,  is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who recently joined Oyster Point Family Practice. Joys brings with her not only exceptional experience as a Nurse Practitioner, but also a very rare capability that could be very helpful when treating some of our patients as she is fluent in three (3) languages, English, Arabic and Italian.

Joys was raised overseas and lived overseas again for several years as a military wife and a Nurse Practitioner which has given her a unique perspective on healthcare and the importance of maintaining individual wellness whenever possible.  Joys graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from North Carolina Central University. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati where she graduated with honors and became a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.

Joys brings a wealth of experience with her in the proper and efficient diagnosis of both pediatric and adult patients in the urgent care, general wellness, pediatric and family practice specialties. She has years of experience in the urgent care setting performing as both a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner working in a busy CHKD practice and as a Family Nurse Practitioner as the only provider working in a busy, stand-alone urgent care facility treating patients of all ages. In both facilities, she was responsible for conducting accurate physical assessments, performing and interpreting diagnostic testing, treating pediatric and adult patients with asthma exacerbations and similar complaints such as common viral infections and managing orthopedic issues like identifying strains, sprains and even fractures.  She has experience with both children and adults with suturing and stapling of wounds, foreign body removal and all other urgent care procedures.

As a Nurse Practitioner, Joys has worked with patients of all ages to diagnose and help manage chronic medical conditions such as hypertension and diabetes and has performed sports, college, school, employment and annual physicals in addition to well child checks.  As a Registered Nurse, she worked in the Emergency Department assisting physicians with the treatment of and education regarding a patient’s specific diagnosis, as well as follow-up with the patients after they had been released from the ER.

As a volunteer, Joys utilized her skills as an RN and her ability to speak Arabic by accompanying patients to their medical appointments to translate for them. She also volunteered her time as an RN in a primary care clinic as an Arabic translator and performed patient teaching about acute injuries, diabetes management and generally healthier lifestyles.  Joys has also taught other prospective RNs, assisted in research studies and been published in medical journals.

Joys has experience with telemedicine providing both urgent care and managing chronic health issues and she has successfully treated patients with COVID-19. Joys is currently accepting new patients! Please call our office at (757) 873-2000 today to schedule an appointment with Joys!
